NRC has recruited and trained hundreds of parents and community residents to form Local School Councils (LSCs) that maintain control over their respective schools while improving students' academic achievements.  NRC provides bi-lingual training to Local School Councils, service learning opportunities, leadership development, parent resources and specialized teacher trainings to bolster the classroom learning experience and teacher performance.















Typically, Local Schools Councils consist of the following:
 

One Principal

Six Parent Representatives

Two Community Representatives

Two Teacher Representatives

 

*High School LSCs also maintain a student representative
 

We help parents and educators conduct meetings, hire principals, organize, raise funds, and create effective school improvement plans.  To prepare parents and teachers for leadership positions, Local School Council law requires members to complete the following classes:













Workshops 1&2 - Roles/Responsibilities/Effective Meetings
Workshops 3&4 - Schools Improvement Plans/Budgeting
Workshops 5&6 - Principal Evaluation, Retention & Selection















NRC partners with the Chicago Public School Area 1 & Area 19 trainers to offer many of these workshops (in both English & Spanish) and can customize the training to meet the needs of each school.
