Economic Development

Small business development and improvement of our business districts is one of our core functions. This includes: Operation of the Albany Park and Irving Park Special Service Area (SSA #60), operation of the Albany Park Chamber of Commerce, and serving as a Neighborhood Business Development Center and Chicago Business Center; a delegate agency of the City of Chicago.

SSA #60

North River Commission proudly serves as the sole service provider for the Albany Park & Irving Park Special Service Area (SSA #60) and supports local businesses and their customers.

Chicago Business Center

We are one of 8 delegate agencies of the city of Chicago to function as a Chicago Business Center (CBC) - a program of the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) initiative to fill the current gap in local business resources and minimize barriers for entrepreneurs and business owners of disadvantaged communities to properly launch, sustain, and/or expand their small businesses

The Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection’s (BACP) Neighborhood Business Development Centers (NBDCs) play a critical role in fostering equitable small-business environments, in the communities they serve across the City of Chicago. The NBDC Program consists of 65 local business service organizations that provide no-cost hyper-local business development assistance to entrepreneurs and business owners throughout the city. On behalf of the City, NBDCs provide general business licensing and public way use permitting guidance as well as specialized support services based on their program type (i.e., Place-Based Business Specialist, and City-Wide Capital Specialist), which includes confidential 1-on-1 business advising, technical assistance, professional development workshops, access to capital, B2B networking, employment and workforce development assistance and more.
